UnitingCare Christmas Gift Appeal

Target stores and UnitingCare are encouraging people to 'be someone's Santa this Christmas' by choosing a gift tag with the age and gender of someone in need from the UnitingCare Christmas Tree at the front of all Target stores.

People can buy or make a suitable gift and leave it beneath the tree, or purchase a gift voucher and specify it is for the UnitingCare Christmas Gift Appeal.

NCYC09 – two months to go!

It’s just two months until young people from all over Australia and overseas Converge on Melbourne for the Uniting Church’s National Christian Youth Convention (NCYC09).

The organisers mildly suggest on their website that it will be “arguably the best 7 days since Genesis”. Click here for all the latest details. Uniting Church congregations across Victoria and Tasmania have been huge supporters of NCYC for over 50 years, and 2009 is no exception. Hundreds of young people are coming from congregations in this Synod, but there’s still room, and still time (before the registration deadline of November 30).

“We know that a number of young people tend to leave things to the last minute, so we’ve got a little carrot to spur you in to action for the next 12 days”, said Convention coordinator Rohan Pryor. “If you register and pay in full between now and November 12, you’ll go in to the draw to win back your registration cost, or give it on to a friend who hasn’t yet registered, or an overseas or disadvantaged delegate. If you’ve already registered, why not encourage a friend to register now – and if they win the free rego, they might like to split the refund with you!

It’s valid for new registrations between November 1 and November 12. The winner’s name will be drawn out of a hat, and announced on Thursday 13th November – check the website – and see you at Converge in Melbourne – January 3rd to 9th.

Discover Your Call Workshop Provides Tools for Congregational Training in Australia

Adrian Pyle and John Emmett, mission catalysts from the Uniting Church in Australia, attended the Discover Your Call – Dependable Strengths® for Congregations course through KAIROS in May. Pyle's and Emmett's work involves encouraging faith communities to be more creative in their participation in God's mission. Part of the process of engaging that creativity is getting people to know themselves and their peers at deeper levels. Read more here.
